F. Light: Three-Way Lamp

William Boujon and Julien Benayoun are the principals of Bold, the Paris-based design studio behind the F. Light. Intended as a triple-duty object, the F. Light is a wall light, a task light or even a wireless flashlight, depending on what it's mounted (or not mounted) to.

Oriented on the ceiling direction, the light creates a bright spot extending from the wall to the ceiling. The indirect light is the most enjoyable in the relaxed area of a bedroom.
As a reading light, the rotation axis enables it to take all possible directions: From left to right—top to bottom—and all intermediate positions between these extremes. It points easily [at] the book in your hands and only illuminates the needed space.

Once removed from its base—which serves as a rotation axis and as a charger—this light source becomes independent and is used as a flashlight. No other light source is needed to light a precise spot or to move into the house at night.

To manufacture the F. Light, Bold turned to firearms manufacturer Verney-Carron, France's oldest such company. While Bold "[didn't] want to create or work on guns," Verney-Carron was able to provide the extreme precision desired for the wood and machined-aluminum object. Here's a vid of it being made:

Sadly, as far as I can tell, the F. Light is not being mass produced.
