Kabel, in cooperation with Droog, stitched the material into chair and bench shapes, filled them with sand to give it some body, then baked the whole thing in an oven. Then the sand was removed, as the heat from the oven had "set" the polypropylene into a fixed position.
Rotterdam-based designer Kabel's other work is well worth a look. We absolutely love his Wood Ring bench from 2010, made from a single 10-meter-long piece of Oregon pine that Kabel cut into 100 notch-shaped pieces, then bound together using a metal band—no glue—creating a beautiful circular bench.
More recently Kabel designed the Hidden Vase series, where a variety of receptacles are placed into different dishes in a pet-waterer configuration. This enables the plants/flowers/crops to be mounted outside of the receptacle, obscuring it and presenting a visual line straight down to the plate, almost as if they're growing directly out of the table you place it on.
